It was exciting to travel onsite to this beautiful California location and see this actual piece already built in and ready to function. The goal was to find a location where the structure was built in with an exterior view (preferably a great one). Needless to say that the team found this location with a pool and green hills view, a perfect combo to showcase the product.

Architectural and Lifestyle Photography of the Skyway Center in San Carlos

Life has interesting stories from time to time.

At the end of last year on a Tuesday when a Bay Area project, involving airplanes and a lifestyle shoot which obviously got us excited did not go through, an exciting request came in a day later. The marketing team of the newly finished Skyway Center reached out for a creative photoshoot request. After talking over the requirements and details both parties realized that we are a good match to each other based on our passion for aviation and experience in the industry. Over the next couple of months we worked on a script and via several shooting days with the right conditions we achieved all the planned results. Here are some of the finished stills for this aviation related project between brightroomSF Studio and Skyway Center in San Carlos.

The Skyway Center has a large private parking area and its easy to find as its just off the freeway. Upon arrival a large glass and wooden facade welcome us onsite as part of the building’s great architectural details.

The bird’s eye view shows how conveniently close the Skyway Center is located to the San Carlos Airport.

The story of how the private owners ended up with the land is quite fascinating, too: “When Sydney Levin, a pioneer San Carlos businessman, purchased 655 Skyway in the 1940’s it was just a swath of tideland between the San Carlos Municipal Airport and Bayshore Freeway. His friends scoffed at the purchase, telling him the land was only good for grazing cows and growing corn. His response: “Well then I guess I’ll raise cows and grow corn.”

Needless to say that the land was not sold and wasn’t used for agricultural purposes in the last century and many years later it could transform into the business what it is today.

The Center at the San Carlos Airport is a place where you can base your plane, have a great venue and grow your business in all one groundbreaking place. The lobby welcomes you with stunning artwork of Bay Area scenic highlights. A short staircase or an elevator takes you up to the second floor, which can act as a relaxing place overlooking the airport or a perfect spot a group venue.

A fun part of the shoot was as the planes were moved into position in the hangars for the different interior and exterior shoots. All the doors are folding and can be electrically operated so it was easy to open and close them into different positions. They also come equipped with state-of-the-art security and best-in-class protection from damaging wind, rain, dust, dirt and debris.

What was so great about these spaces that every hangar has its own aviation related names.such as “Blessie”, “Amelia”, “Christa” and “Harriet” just to name a few.

The first two names I could recognize right away. Bessie Coleman was an early American civil aviator and both the first African-American woman and first Native American to hold a pilot license. And of course Amelia Mary Earhart who was an American aviation pioneer and writer and the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. On the other names I definitely have to polish my knowledge.

The “garages for planes” are spacious, ranging in size from 2000 to 8000+ square feet with door sill heights between 12’4 and 19’, and door widths from 36’ to 72’.

These hangars are not for commercial Boeing and Airbus planes, but the expansive spaces can easily accommodate all light, single and twin-engine piston-engine aircraft in production today, as well as turboprop and turbine aircraft such as the Pilatus PC-12 and Cessna Citation/CJ series.

Encore Apartments Advertising Shoot in Redwood City

Encore Apartments is an intimate, pet-friendly enclave of ninety apartments in Redwood City, CA. BrightroomSF Studio was recently contracted to cover the architectural interiors and exteriors for advertising purposes.

It was a real joy to photograph this building beside some challenges of the available area alongside the building where we used stitched images to capture the space. The building offers a great design, modern features already at the reception area and curated amenities like a well equipped gym,.

The highlight was definitely the viewing terrace from where you have an incredible panorama toward the heart of Redwood City and the surrounding buildings.

Aerial View of Trinity Place in San Francisco Downtown

In 2012 Angelo Sangiacomo Trinity’s owner famously said: “I just want to finish the whole project, God willing,” - talking about the Trinity Plaza, which was lifelong dream and plan for him. Ten years later in 2022 the fourth phase of these four buildings plaza has been finally finished in the heart of San Francisco.

Bay Are based architectural photography studio, brightroomSF was contracted to cover the visual elements of this project. In this final phase with the lead of architectural photograper Marcell Puzsar a stunning set of aerial images has been created.

After getting the permits and the green light from all parties, the most challenging part was to pick a day without strong wind condition in the afternoon. We were rewarded with beautiful weather conditions at the end of the day. Here are some aerials of this project.

London Underground Gems - pedestrian tunnel between Kings Cross station and One Pancras Square

Do you fancy secrets, wondering about people? Do you love watching people passing by and just being a child in a beautiful artistic environment?

As I love the London underground “Tube” system, anytime I am in London either on assignment or just for pleasure, I spend a lot of time there. I enjoy getting lost in the City’s underground world and just marvel at the many artwork and installations there.

One of my favorite areas is the colorfully lit 🌈 tunnel linking Kings Cross station to the shopping area in One Pancras Square. This pedestrian tunnel is a couple of years old (June 2014), but ever is a psychedelic wonder and one easily gets back to being a child and being mesmerized by the ever changing colors.

The “art walls” are lit by LED panels and about 270 feet long. The secret of seamless lighting with no shadow lines is that the lights have been manufactured and installed behind a jointed glass wall.

The tunnel has a gentle curve where one can wonder while looking at the panels and the flooring with long triangles in it. The experience is very calming and relaxing.

This place has also been used for some cool events like the Artificial Intelligence festival, as a catwalk during London Fashion Week and a yoga workshop.

The tunnel was designed by Speirs + Major, with technical delivery by The Light Lab and Architects Allies & Morrison.

New Sutter CPMC Van Ness Campus in San Francisco

I remember when my son was born in 2016 in the CPMC California Campus. It was an unforgettable day !

Even then we heard, the plan was already on for a brand new campus being built on Van Ness.

This became a reality in March 2019 when a state of the art new hospital opened its doors for patients in the middle of the city of San Francisco.

The 12-story and 274-bed medical center occupies an entire city block and was developed by Sutter Health and SmithGroup. It houses two hospitals, the adult acute care and women’s and children’s in one building.

As SmithGroup states the team utilized creative methodologies including Lean programming and revolutionary fabrication techniques to bring one of the smartest, safest and most sustainable hospitals in the country into reality. And they did this a year ahead of schedule and on budget.

An interesting fact that 120 viscous wall dampeners were used during the building process that could withstand a major earthquake, which would remain fully functional for up to 4 days without outside help.

Almost finished: The Salesforce Tower – San Francisco’s tallest building close to completion

Salesforce tower beats it all- 555 California and the Transamerica Pyramid are no longer the tallest ones in the City

No longer just a rendering,  the behemoth that is the Salesforce tower seems on track for it’s occupancy come Summer 2017. With the final beam ceremony having taken place on April 6 2017, the building that will command the title of “Tallest Building West of Chicago” (that can be occupied) is set to change San Francisco forever. As contemporary as the building is, it’s beginnings are still steeped in tradition with a six-foot-tall cedar tree having been attached to the final steel beam to appease any tree-dwelling spirits uprooted during the construction process.

While Salesforce (a cloud computing company), may not have bought the building outright, it has secured the naming rights as well as 30 floors in the lease agreement. Salesforce will be sharing the space with neighbors such as Bain and Company, Accenture, and CBRE – a real estate group.

brightroomSf had the privilege of working with Boston Properties prior to breaking ground for this project where we were able to get a glimpse of the César Pelli (Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects) masterpiece. brightroomSF shot the showrooms and models of the tower and it’s surrounds, in the 500 Freemont Building – a challenge unto itself.

But as the San Francisco skyline changes, we can only marvel at the work done in the construction of this building with its solid bedrock base and lustrous glass exterior. Being the talk of the town is not always easy, but then again, the Salesforce building is certainly up for this Tall Order.
